Capital Softwood Limited, the independent timber agency marketing Nordic softwood in the UK, was formed in 1998.

Steady growth has come through successful relationships with our customers in the UK and our sawmillers in Finland & Sweden. Trust is a key ingredient with a repeat sales business. We combine this with sound financial management of those sales and our own balance sheet.

We aim to offer value in the supply of Nordic softwood by knowing where to source softwood specifications relevant to the quality, logistical & price needs of our customers.

Sawmillers should be assured we look after their financial interests by aiming for a fair market sales price with buyers and guaranteeing account settlement within the terms of contract.

We trade insure all of our buyers and act as a Del Credere agency with 90% indemnity.

History

After it's formation in 1998, the company grew with the two founding partners until 2000 when Tim Dobby acquired overall ownership & control.

In 2008 we opened a Northern area office - Capital Softwood (Northern) Limited - to cover softwood agency sales in that region. This business is managed by its Director & joint shareholder, Hedley Harrison.

In the same year we also set aside a Southern area agency business - Capital Softwood (Southern) Limited. Tim Dobby runs this and also manages the sales for pine board nationally through Capital Softwood Limited.

However, a general overview can be seen below.

Trading

Sales contracts to genuine importers on an agency basis will be raised under licence to the TTF ("NORSOF" General Conditions 2005).

Alternatively we will sell under our own Terms & Conditions to those buyers looking for interest free extended payment terms and/or a UK VAT invoice.

A copy of the relevant terms will be despatched to new buyers prior to agreement of any contract.

Satisfactory trade insurance endorsement is a prerequisite for any credit account with us.

Environment

We are committed to environmental care and view the softwood products we sell as part of the solution to global warming not part of the problem. We are lucky to sell a product we truly believe in. A high percentage of our annual agency sales are PEFC or FSC certified softwood. Capital Softwood Limited is PEFC & FSC certified.

Membership of the Timber Trade Federation also demonstrates our commitment to the softwood trade and we are signatories to the Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP).
